This year, the Telluride Balloon Festival proudly celebrates its 41st year—a breathtaking tradition that has filled our skies with color, wonder, and joy for over four decades. What began in the early 1980s as a small gathering of hot air balloon enthusiasts has grown into one of the most beloved and visually stunning events in the San Juan Mountains. Held each year on the first weekend of June, the festival draws both seasoned pilots and curious first-timer spectators to experience the magic of flight against Telluride’s jaw-dropping mountain backdrop.

From its humble roots—just a few balloons rising at sunrise over Main Street—the event has become a signature part of the summer season in Telluride. Locals and visitors alike wake early to witness the vibrant morning launches, as a fleet of balloons lift gracefully into the crisp alpine air. In the evenings, the town gathers again for the balloon glo, where pilots ignite their burners to light up the night in a glowing, unforgettable display. More than just a visual spectacle, the Telluride Balloon Festival is a celebration of community, creativity, and adventure. It’s a time when pilots, volunteers, and guests come together to honor the spirit of exploration that hot air ballooning represents. As we enter our 41st year, we’re filled with gratitude for everyone who has helped this festival take flight—year after year. Whether you're a longtime balloon crew member, a sponsor, a first-time visitor, or just someone who loves watching balloons drift over the mountains—we thank you. Here’s to another year of wonder in the skies.
